Project overview
The Volobe Amont project is one of the Malagasy government’s priority projects aimed at increasing Madagascar’s power generation capacity.
Location
35km from the city of Toamasina, located in the Volobe zone, Toamasina 2 district of the Atsinanana Region.
The Volobe hydroelectric plant will be made up of :
Main infrastructures
● Dam 25 m high and 300 m wide
● 6.5 km underground gallery
● Underground power station with 6 turbines of 20 MW each
● 400 ha water reservoir
● Power transmission line
Associated infrastructure
● Base camp and storage areas
● Access road
● 150 m bridge
Project phases
Volobe Amont is divided into three main phases :
The development phase : feasibility study, socio-environmental studies and site development.
Construction phase : construction of hydroelectric production and transmission networks, as well as associated infrastructure.
The operation phase : commissioning of the hydropower plant and long-term management of the infrastructure.
