Upstream Volobe: Heading towards the tender phase

The Upstream Volobe hydropower project has reached a new and crucial milestone. The Compagnie Générale d’Hydroélectricité de Volobe (CGHV) announced the pre-selection of companies for the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract, which will be divided into three distinct lots.
This selection process, conducted in a competitive and transparent manner, aims to ensure the technical excellence of the project while complying with national regulations and the International Finance Corporation’s (IFC) Performance Standards.
Here is the list of pre-selected companies for each lot:
- Civil Works: Bouygues Travaux Publics, Sinohydro, and Vinci Construction.
- Electromechanical: Andritz Hydro and VOITH with Elecnor.
- Power Transmission Line and Substations: Sinohydro Corporation and Entreprise d’Électricité et d’Équipement (EEE).
The next step will be to finalize the tender documents to launch the process for the final selection of the companies.
A major project for Madagascar’s energy future
Located in Ivondro, the future Upstream Volobe power plant will have a capacity of 120 MW and will produce 750 GWh per year. This major project will provide electricity to over 360,000 households, or approximately 2 million people, significantly contributing to the electrification and socio-economic development of the region.
